As I write this I am sitting in my workroom, sipping green tea mixed with honey viewing my new Mercedez from the window and today is my Uncle Jim’s birthday.

Flashback to a few years ago, I had just finished my studies and was offered a role after clearing 4 rounds of interviews competing against 31 others most of them with experience in a good pharma company, I was excited to earn and show off my skills.

But guess what? I was rejected by the Hr Head on the first day of the job because the company had a new rule which said they will not hire inexperienced candidates for the position and the regional hr was informed on the day of my joining about the rule.

I gave a couple of more interviews and tried every reference but everything was in vain.

I was heartbroken and shattered, a couple of days later uncle Jim came to visit me and he saw me feeling low and sad. I asked him angrily ‘How does this world work? Why am I not getting success?

Here's what he had to say and I followed what he said.

1.Awareness: Be aware of your thoughts.

You get what you constantly think of, whether it is positive or negative.

If you constantly think of things like that I don't want to be a failure, I don't want to fail, you will attract failure, that's how the world.

2. Tidiness

The condition of your cupboard is equal to the condition of your mind.

Believe it or not, your environment plays important role in your day-to-day decisions. When your mind is clear you tempt to make decisions that help you grow. Whenever you are feeling stressed or anxious just try using this technique take a cloth or broom and just start cleaning, take out stuff that is of no use and throw it away.

Keep only those things that spark joy when you hold or see.

You will feel calmer and clearer.

3. Giving now.

I had decided that I will help people when I am rich, I will give money in charity when I am rich but my uncle said you receive what you give.

If you need more money, start giving money now.

If you need respect from others, start respecting others now.

If you abuse, you will receive abuse now.

If you praise and appreciate others for whatever they do, you will receive the same sooner or later.

4. Social skills

Here social skills are not how popular you are on social media but how well you communicate with coworkers and the community.

Getting more social really helps an individual grow not just in his field but in other fields as well. And it helps to build a network.

A simple way to improve social skills is to watch and model people who are already good at it.

5. Begin with an end in mind.

Imagine you have packed your bags, booked a cab but have no idea where to go.

Whatever small or big task you do begin with the end in mind. Imagine what kind of result are you looking for for the task. It will help you gain more clarity and will produce great results.

To sum up:

  1. You will receive success if you constantly think of success rather than I don't want to fail.
  2. Keep only those that bring joy to you and throw away things that are of no use to your belongings as it will help your mind to clearer.
  3. You get what you give so start giving now - do not wait for the perfect time or status.
  4. Make sure to communicate with people of different backgrounds and communities, it will help you gain knowledge and build a network.
  5. Do every task with an end in the mind, your performance and result will improve drastically.
